Empowering Girls in Uganda with Menstrual Hygiene Kits

We’ve teamed up with Bloom Together Collective to address a critical yet often overlooked issue—menstrual hygiene for young girls in Jinja, Uganda. Through our collaboration, we aim to provide sustainable menstrual hygiene solutions to 500 schoolgirls. By ensuring they have access to reusable sanitary pad kits, it will empower them to attend school with confidence.
The Need for Menstrual Hygiene Support in Uganda
Around the world, 500 million women lack access to basic menstrual products. For many young girls in Uganda, menstruation can be a barrier to education. Without access to proper hygiene products, girls often miss school or even drop out of school, which can impact their academic performance and future opportunities.
The statistics highlight the urgency of this issue:
- 86% of girls in Uganda lack access to proper menstrual hygiene products.
- 78% of girls miss school during their periods due to lack of sanitary supplies and proper support in schools.
- 25% of girls aged 12 – 18 drop out of school after they start menstruating.
These numbers reflect the pressing need for sustainable solutions that allow girls in Uganda to stay in school and pursue their education without interruption.
A Solution that Makes a Difference
It’s 4 the Kids and Bloom Together Collective have stepped up to tackle this issue by launching a fundraising initiative to provide 500 reusable sanitary pad kits to schoolgirls in Jinja. These kits offer a long-term, eco-friendly solution, allowing girls to manage their periods safely and hygienically while continuing their education.
